Course Overview
This course provides a comprehensive foundation in Housing-Based Case Management (HBCM) within an Ontario context. Participants will learn the core skills necessary to assist individuals facing homelessness, housing precarity, complex needs, and systemic barriers.
Through a strengths-based, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented lens, learners will gain practical tools for assessment, engagement, service planning, housing acquisition, tenancy support, crisis intervention, and system navigation.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Apply Housing First principles in intensive case management.
- Conduct thorough assessments using standardized Ontario tools (OCAT, VI-SPDAT, SPDAT).
- Develop and implement client-centered housing and support plans.
- Navigate Ontario’s housing access systems, including Special Priority Policy (SPP).
- Engage landlords and support tenancy stabilization.
- Apply trauma-informed and harm reduction approaches to service delivery.
- Respond to crises and mitigate risks of housing loss.
